Justice for Fr. Pops, Truly a Father of Lumad Children!

We condemn to the strongest possible term on the brutal killing of Fr. Fausto Tentorio yesterday morning, October 17, 2011 while boarding his vehicle going for a clergy meeting in the diocese of Kidapawan. Fr. Pops, as we fondly called him was a known child rights advocate whose advocacy is for the interest of the Lumad children. Because the social services especially education is inaccessible to Lumad children, he helped set up day care centers in the far-flung areas of Arakan Valley.

Quezon City, Philippines - Children’s Rehabilitation Center (CRC) condemns atrocities of elements of the Armed Forces of the Philippines in two separate incidents in Mindanao.

In September 2, Sunshine Jabinez, a Grade 2 pupil of Biasong Elementary School in Pantukan, Compostela Valley, was killed after PFC. Baltazar Ramos of the Philippine Army’s 71st IB went amok and indiscriminately fired his gun while reportedly being drunk.

Children's Rehabilitation Center expresses condolences to kin of victims of Ampatuan massacre in Maguindanao

First and foremost, our organization condoles with the family and relatives of the victims who were mercilessly killed in Ampatuan town in Maguindanao.  Many of those killed were women, including two people's lawyers, who were unarmed and were on their way towards following the democratic process of filing the candidacy of their kin for the coming elections.  Also among the almost 62 people killed were media persons who were there to cover the event and to facilitate the right of the public to information.

AFP is accountable for the death of children in Datu Piang, Maguindanao

Children’s Rehabilitation Center, a child rights organization here in Southern Mindanao strongly condemned the random bombings made by the Armed Forces of the Philippines particularly the Philippine Airforce last September 8, 2008 in Datu Piang, Maguindanao which killed 6 civillians including 4 innocent children who were evacuating their community on board a motorboat. AFP slammed for killing women and children in Maguindanao

The Children’s Rehabilitation Center (CRC), a non-government organization helping children in armed conflict cope with trauma, today deplored the military’s aerial attack on civilians in Datu Piang, Maguindanao. As a result, at least 4 children and a pregnant woman were killed in the attack. “The women and children were already fleeing from the military operations in their barangay when they were hit. Would their lives be considered as mere collateral damage?” asked Ma. Esmeralda Macaspac, Executive Director of the CRC. Read more »

More Filipino children are displaced on World Refugee Day!

In the recent months, more than hundred families are being displaced from their homes because of the continuous military operations in their area. Families from rural communities from northern part of the country Abra to the southern part of Sulu are escaping the wrath of military operations conducted of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on areas perceived to be lair of communist insurgents or Moslem separatist.
